More info: The most common species of Tourmaline is schorl, also known as Black Tourmaline. The name comes from the Sinhalese “Thuramali” which was a common name applied to many different stones. Heating, cooling, or rubbing a piece of Black Tourmaline can activate its piezoelectricity, and it will become electromagnetically charged with a negative and a positive pole. Its deposits can be found in Brazil, Africa, Sri Lanka, and Russia.
